Another common blunder in website building is to just build a website and let it gather dust. Many people when they make a website do not bother to update it. This leads to it sinking in the search engines and not attracting return visitors.

Why is this a problem?

1. Sinking in the search engines, especially Google: Google is the number one search engine and in order to score well in their engines they require certain standards. One of these criteria is informative and fresh content. If you do not add fresh content on a regular basis your website will slowly but surely sink in the Google search engine results. If you are not on the 1st page or at least the 2nd page in the Google search engine index, then you will not attract many visitors.

2. Visitors do not return: if visitors have already seen your website and see nothing fresh they will simply move on and will not return. Returning visitors will often buy, as it takes more than one look at your product and sales copy to buy.

Solution: Adding fresh content every week or so will keep your website interesting to your visitors. This will encourage them to return and quite often buy from your site. When visitors find an interesting site they tell others and more traffic comes to your site, with viral marketing.

Fresh content will also please Google. It is Google's aim to make interesting and useful sites for its search engine users. Fresh content is something that will accomplish this. This will get you a better page rank with Google and also rank you higher with other major search engines.

So what is fresh content?

This can be in the form of informative articles. These can be information about your product or service, news items, or product reviews. You can draw attention to new articles with blogging on blogspot.com. this is Google's blogging site and linking to your articles with blogs on this site will get your article pages indexed.

Fresh content can also be good quality links to other websites with good resources. This is useful to your visitors and will improve the quality of your website. This will improve your ranks in the search engines. So keep your website ever fresh an do not let it gather cyber dust. In this way you will gain an increasing amount of traffic and sales.
